This plant is made up of small hairy green leaves floating on the surface. Salvinia are not hardy and can be burnt by cold winds. It makes a very attractive plant in shallow bowls with a little soil and kept in a warm, light position. Not hardy. Remove decaying plants after first frost. Very hard to overwinter.
Pond Planet Floating Plant Guide:
Only native floating plants are truly hardy whilst tropical species add variety to the pond during the summer months. Floating pond plants provide shade to the water and help remove nitrates, which aids in the reduction of algae and increases biodiversity.
