The NT Labs Pond Health Check is basically a Mini Pond Water Test Kit which checks the three main water parameters in a pond. The kit includes tests for ammonia (NH3), nitrite (NO2) and pH. The kit is supplied with full instructions to help you carry out the tests correctly to ensure the pond maintains the optimum water quality parameters and to help restore perfect water quality should a parameter be incorrect.

Ammonia, Nitrite & pH
Ammonia is excreted by the fish as a waste product, too much ammonia will cause major health problems so needs testing regularly.

Nitrite is produced by the beneficial bacteria in the pond and filters as they break down the harmful waste ammonia, excreted by the fish. Nitrite can affect the health of fish, but is not as toxic as ammonia so test regularly.

pH is the measure of acidity or alkalinity of the water in a pond. Pond fish prefer the water to be between 7 and 8, fluctuations outside these values can cause stress and possible fatalities.
